[ It'd been a few days since Megami (now Amphitrite) had awoken from his slumber, and since Poseidon had settled things with Adranus. The sea king had needed to rest following the battle and so it was on Amphitrite to make sure their sons weren't up to any mischief while he healed.
Today though... well. Today...
It's Choromatsu who comes swimming to Poseidon's room. ]
Um... dad?
[ He doesn't even know if his father is awake. He looks and sounds a little... at a loss ]
[Poseidon had been resting well. Now that Adranus was gone and his fiance properly home, he could rest easy. At least...that's how it had been for the last few days.
He'd been lightly dozing when Choromatsu comes swimming into his room (now his and Amphitrite's room, actually), and it prompts him to lift his head up from his arms.]
[ He swims up to his father. It'd been two months now since his encounter with the sea witch and his brief time as a human, but he is now back in his usual attire (sans his old necklace which was lost when the grotto was destroyed and now makes the space where it was look kinda empty). It's almost like none of that even happened ]
Um... can you come with me for a sec? Something's uh... something's up with mom.
[...Choromatsu could have probably chosen his words better, because Poseidon throws himself upright so quickly that it makes his room spin, but he ignores it in favor of immediately reaching for his trident in a half-awake stupor.]
[It isn't very long before the big day arrives. Of course news had spread far and wide throughout the sea, reaching all corners as word got to mers who lived many leagues away. It meant that the actual wedding couldn't occur for a few months after it was announced, mostly to give folks a chance to come to the city to see it if they wanted to. Poseidon had the task of organizing everything atop keeping the sea in balance, two tasks he somehow managed effortlessly. Soon enough the reef was full to bursting with both locals and visitors alike, all abuzz about the goddess who would be wed to the sea king who had been their guardian and ruler for so long.
The wedding itself is a grand affair. Held in the very heart of the sea in the middle of the reef network where there was plenty of room for people to sit both above and below where the two would be wed overlooking the cusp of the main part of the reef itself. All of their sons were lined up in neat rows of three on either side: Choromatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Karamatsu on Amphitrite's side, and Osomatsu, Todomatsu, and Ichimatsu on Poseidon's. They formed a veritable rainbow of scales this way, a stunning sight to see as Poseidon positioned himself at the head of them in full armor, from his gauntlets to crown and even more than he usually wore just for the occasion.
And Amphitrite...the merfolk couldn't take their eyes off of him. Not only was he himself a deity, but not even a merperson at that...something they'd never seen before. The long, flowing robes he wore in rainbow colors made his long tail even more hypnotic to see twisting in the water as he swam to Poseidon's side carrying a bouquet of undersea life in his hands. He also wore a beautiful crown of shells, along with a necklace and even some more things to decorate him for the occasion like long strings of pearls in his hair. But this was not just a wedding...but a coronation as well. Amphitrite was taking his place next to Poseidon as Queen of the Sea, something no one ever thought would come to pass. Which meant that after their vows were read and rings were exchanged, Amphitrite was crowned by Poseidon himself with a silver diadem crusted with emeralds and crafted to mimic leaves like the laurel he once wore.
Finally, after all of that, the two shared a kiss and sealed their union before the entire sea.
After all the festivities ended, Poseidon and Amphitrite slipped away on their own to collect their things and head off for their "Honey Moon". Their children protested them leaving, but it was Choromatsu who whipped them into shape, fussing at his brothers for not letting them go in peace. He was the only one who really understood the concept of a honeymoon as it was, anyway. Poseidon trusted that they would be okay for as long as they were gone, at least until Osomatsu got his claws in and something happened. But he would just deal with that...later...
As it stands, Amphitrite gets treated to Poseidon carrying him bridal style straight out of the water once they make it back to his island, having shapeshifted in the shallows so he could walk onto the sand on newly formed legs with his wife in tow. It's just starting to get a little darker as the sun begins to set, painting the island a soft orange.]
Looks like we have arrived in time to see the moon rise for our honeymoon, love.
[ The ceremony was so wonderful but also so overwhelming with all those eyes on him that while he loved every moment of it (and cried. cried a lot) he is relieved to finally be alone. This has been the happiest day of his life, and he knows that now it is just the two of them it'll be even happier.
He has also shifted forms in the shallows, matching Poseidon's legs as they surface... not that he intends to walk right away though, he's more than happy to keep being carried honestly. ]
Oh, how perfect...!
If you would like I believe I know the perfect spot to watch it rise.
[He's visited this island countless times by now, but he hasn't actually walked it on foot very much. Amphitrite is his guide here, more or less. Though he could have just swum up river...]
[ He slips out of Poseidon’s arms so he can stand, then gently takes his hand in one of his and begins to lead him away from the beach. He takes him through the forest, gently tiptoeing over the roots, but the path he takes is not the one that leads to his lake. ]
It’s a little bit of a trek I’m afraid... will that be all right, dear?
[ He laughs softly at that, tightening his hand in Poseidon’s and deciding to take the walk slow in that case. They have time. Time to savour together.
Eventually he leads Poseidon out of the woods and up a grassy hill. Wild flowers dot the soft grass and eventually the hill leads up to a cliff over the ocean so they get a beautiful clear view of that as well as the sky. ]
[That's all he has to say at first once they make it to the crest of the hill, his eyes widening as he looks out over the sea. His sea. A view of it that he very rarely ever gets to see, especially like this, in this context.]
Oh, Love...it is beautiful here. Sights like these make me wish some days that I were born a god of the land.
[When the world first came into being and the lands and oceans of the world were formed, children of Titans took power over each of their own realms. Zeus commanded the Heavens above while Hades resided in the Underworld below. As for the ocean itself...it had fallen into Poseidon's hands. The brothers never tended to meddle in each others' affairs, content to let each rule their domains however they saw fit. Mostly.
Poseidon took care of the ocean with as much benevolence as he could muster, tirelessly making sure that everyone and everything that lived there had a place to live. When the world was new, it was easy. No humans polluting the water, no dangers from the outside world...just the sealife and the merfolk to take care of. But as the world grew, so did Poseidon's vigilance to keep up with it. Not only did he need to make sure that the ocean was in balance, but now he had to do whatever he could to mitigate the threats posed by mortals. He of course couldn't change fate nor could he intervene with everything, but he did what he could.
In recent millennia, the sea had exploded with life. And with the existence of titans and gods meant that lesser gods and goddesses existed in Poseidon's realm as well whom he relied on. Their roles were smaller, but he knew that if they weren't around, things would be a lot worse than they are. And just like with the citizens, Poseidon would occasionally consort with them to see how things were going wherever in the ocean they happened to live. Many still resided in lakes and rivers, able to report back to the King about the comings and goings of land dwellers.
Things were, at present, peaceful as Poseidon made his usual rounds. He'd spent most of the morning making sure that the tide had come and gone properly the night before, so now he swims through the open sea proper to head back to the reefs where the merfolk live.
[ Amphitrite meanwhile, had admired Poseidon from afar for a long, long time. He was a nereid, a kind of sea spirit or nymph, and had his own work to do in helping the sea run smoothly. Mostly taking care of coral and fauna in his own little areas... but he had a tendency to wander and...
Well. It'd been hard to forget about the sea king after his first exposure to him. Even that had only been from afar, and they didn't really meet... but he was so handsome and majestic, how could he forget?
He'd gotten used to watching the king from a distance, admiring him as he worked behind coral and rock... that's just the way it had to be. He was only a nereid after all, there was no way he'd ever have a chance ]
[As far as admirers and things went, Poseidon wasn't so obtuse as to not realize he had quite a few. Unlike his siblings, however, he didn't seem as interested in entertaining them, or perhaps he was just too oblivious at times to realize he was being come onto. Finding partners and having children wasn't exactly necessary seeing as they would control their realms forever due to immortality (and children would just run a risk of an uprising later anyway), but on occasion Poseidon still found himself wondering...what that might be like.
Lucky for Amphitrite, the Sea King just so happens to be passing through one of the areas he takes care of specifically. A bit of a rare occurrence since there is so much sea for him to cover that he doesn't visit often, even rarer still during a time Amphitrite is actually there. To top it all off, instead of just passing through, Poseidon slows to a stop among the reef bed to observe the sea anemones, kelp, and sea flowers that Amphitrite cares for.]
My...you all sure are looking beautiful this morning!
He sucks in a rather loud audible breath and as if responding to his emotions (or maybe just to the compliment), the flora he's observing seem to... brighten up? ]
[Poseidon’s fins lift and his face creases into a pleased smile as he observes the flora, and...it looks like he’s chosen to stay a bit longer. He turns from his intended passing-by course and moves into the reef proper, passing close enough by where Amphitrite is that his massive size causes water to rush past him.]
I have not seen a bed quite this healthy in some time...
Amphitrite has to grab hold of the reef so he doesn’t get swept out into the open by the rush of water. The plants and anemones all sway like they’re dancing though.
Once Amphitrite has a good hold again, he peaks back out over the coral... Poseidon is so close now and more handsome... ]
[Well don’t look now, but he’s stopped again, this time to reach out and just barely touch the kelp with his fingertips, careful not to touch the reef itself lest he damage it.]
You all are the work of a very hard working Nereid...
