Oh no, that wasn't bad at all earlier.

When people are going and coming from work the whole train car gets stuffed full of people like a can of sardines. You can barely even move. They even have to have some cars that are girls only for safety reasons.

Varian just slooowly slides over closer to Rina as they walk. Subconsciously.]

So taking the train is like...ssssafe, right?

[ She nods, noting that he's gotten closer but not saying anything about it. ]

Mm, it's as safe as it can be. It operates fine. [ That's not what he meant Rina ]

But it's like going anywhere... sometimes, there's just people who aren't safe to be around. People who are really bad. You just have to be aware of it and try to take care of yourself as best you can.

It's a pretty big thing for her to say. It's not just kind, it's...an outpouring of trust that means something a bit different between the two of them, given their history. And every time it's extended to Varian, he can feel himself falling a little harder for her. He has to remember to remind himself every day that the second chance Rina has given him in trusting him this much is more than he likely deserves. Even if what he'd done to her was an accident in the end...his actions weren't all that accidental. He knew he was going down a dark path, and he turned a blind eye to anyone seeking to help him. Especially Rina.

He nods a little, reaching for her hand to take once the place they were going to go sit comes into view.]

You've got that right. Nothing's happening while I'm around.

[ As he reaches for her hand she immediately laces her fingers with his, palms pressed close before she steps in a little closer and leans against him, head resting on his shoulder. With her other hand holding her ice cream there’s no free hand to hold her board up so the little smile on her face is there and plain for him to be able to see. ]

Mmhm.

[ She doesn’t really need to say much else than that: she means it when she says she knows he’ll protect her. That she trusts him wholly like that. Despite everything that he did, he’s different now (was different before the Wizard reset all their character development to 0) and he also made a promise, one she believes— no, knows he’ll keep this time.

…It also starts to set in for her again though - as it had a few times during these last few days - that pretty soon he’s not actually going to be there to protect her. That she’s going to have to relearn to stand on her own without him or Farrah or the rest of their little makeshift family to support her - that for the first time since they held each other’s hand during that second trial (excluding those first few days after they died) he’s not going to be right beside her with their hands together like this.

Like the last few times she thought about this though she… does her very best to NOT think about it anymore than that. But her smile does falter - though considering her usual facial expressions that might not seem too weird.

When they’re at the spot she tips her head up more towards him. ]

[ It’s prob just a bench facing the bay or something. ]

[In time, Varian will maybe become more privy to what's been on Rina's mind about him having to go back to Corona, among other things. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't going to miss her too, especially when they're complete worlds apart from each other. But right now- for both of them- staying permanently in one or the other place isn't feasible. Rina still has to finish school, and Varian is busy doing work at the Kingdom, among other things.

In the end, he doesn't quite notice her faltering. He's too busy enjoying the walk they're taking, nodding once they reach said bench.]

Looks good to me! Let's eat before our ice cream melts.

[ Maybe he will! Maybe even before this date is over. 👀 Who can say. 👀

At his approval she’s nodding and taking a seat on the bench.

…it maybe takes her a moment to let go out of his hand so she can actually like. You know, eat it. But after a few awkward seconds she does, finally turning to the ice cream and scooping up the tip of the swirl. ]

Mmm...you know, not quite as sweet as some of the stuff in Corona, but I think that's mostly Rapunzel's doing. Still really good though.

[ That surprises her for a moment and she tilts her head a little. ]

[ Man the universal translator is weird with what it does and doesn't pick up sometimes... maybe she should work harder in English class in case it ever stops working.

She watches as he tries it, eating another spoonful herself. ]

I'm glad you like it... I know some foreigners find the green tea flavour to be "grassy" sometimes and don't like it, so I was a little worried.

[ Only a little though because those people are weird. Matcha is delicious. That's not an ic opinion just the ooc truth. v ^ v ]

[Let's be honest with ourselves here, Varian is going to be attempting to learn Japanese too. Hopefully if that ever does happen, they'll have enough of a mixture of both languages that they'd be able to piece together some sort of understanding of one another.

Varian nods as he takes another bite.]

Yeah, I can see where people might think that. I think it's kinda more...refreshing? But maybe I've just been eating too many sweets back home...

[ She nods along as he speaks. ]

I know what you mean. Traditional Japanese sweets… tend to be more subtle than super sweet. Especially in comparison to a cupcake or crepe. The difference can be really nice…

[ Don’t mind her though she’s in the process of trying to decapitate pancake Hello Kitty with her spoon. ]

[Oh, bye Hello Kitty...though he guesses that's less worse than taking your time with it, like eating her ears first-

Mmm… No, not really. I like super sweet stuff just as much… maybe even more. But the variety… is fun.

Me? Mm...now this is just between you and me, but I would say I have kindof...maybe a little bit of a sweet tooth.

[Said as he pops his spoon back into his mouth, talking around it attractively.]

Now, It'sh moschtly becaush like- [He swallows, pulling the spoon back out.] -I live on a farm, you know? So we eat like...preeetty healthy most of the time, I'd say. Dad's a good enough cook, but I'm the one who can really bake stuff.

[ She nods along ] That makes sense.

[ ......wait a second. ]

I didn't know you could bake.

[ At least she can't remember him mentioning that before, but considering all they've been through it wouldn't be a surprise if she forgot some stuff. ]

....oh! Did I never tell you about that?

[He in fact never did! So it's less that Rina didn't remember and more that it just never actually came up.]

Yeah, I bake! Cooking in general is just like alchemy anyway, just with different steps. Baking requires the most precision and attention to detail when it comes to following those steps, which is why I like it.

And, you know, being able to just whip up a mean batch of cookies or muffins is pretty impressive.
