[Megami's begging cries claw relentlessly at Poseidon's heart the longer he listens. It isn't fair to Megami, having to live this way. It isn't like he can help what he was born to be, a spirit of the lake as opposed to the river or the sea...
He doesn't deserve the danger of possibly losing his life over this. But Poseidon fears the worst would occur if something isn't done. Not only is Megami in danger now, but their sons specifically as well. Adranus would not hesitate to murder their children in the name of petty spite. Poseidon has lived long enough to know this. He has lived through many a tragedy, some occurring to his own flesh and blood.
He draws away slightly from Megami, lifting a hand to use his thumb to brush away his tears.]
You must understand...if I do this, your island will never be recovered. It will be devestation for everything that lives on it.
[ He sniffles again, thinking about his poor beloved frogs and realizes he doesn't want them or anything else to die... ]
Then... I don't know what else to do...
[ He slumps against Poseidon, pressing his cheek to his chest. He looks like a marionette with its strings cut with how lifeless and utterly defeated his body looks.
His voice is soft and resigned as he only cries silently now ]
I wish I was a river god... like the rest of my brothers...
...My sisters live in lakes. And springs and such. But I always heard stories that suggested many of them could move freely... one was even Zeus' first wife before Hera...
[ Hmm.
And Megami had only ever been considered a "goddess" because he was always mistaken for one... ]
[For all intents and purposes, Megami should be a river god. He is not actually a goddess, he's just adopted the title after being...
...mistaken...for one.]
...it was a mistake.
[Poseidon suddenly- gently- pushes Megami away from him so he can hold him at arm's length.]
What if you are not a lake god? Who is to say you are not a river god like the rest of your brothers? There is no mention of any lake gods, only goddesses- and regardless of what you have been called all this time, you are actually a god!
[Okay, if this theory is actually correct, that's pretty endearing. A river god falling in love with the sea...it makes perfect sense.]
There is no way for us to know for certain, but...what if it is? That would mean you were always meant to be free to traverse from your lake to the ocean...through your river.
Adranus has chosen to make this personal and has harmed my family, making this officially my problem. As the god of the sea, I will use every ounce of my power to create a river on your island. And provided that is successful...
[He looks over at his dropped trident in the sand.]
You will remain in the sea with our sons until I take care of Adranus myself.
[Poseidon fixes Megami with a sad look before pressing a lingering kiss to the crown of his head.]
Stay here, okay? If...if something goes wrong, I need to know where I can find you.
[He doesn't plan for it to, but...this is going to be extremely delicate work. He has no idea what will happen once he starts carving into Megami's otherwise untouched lake.]
[That's...hard to think about, but he understands it all the same. Megami is a lesser god, after all...and doing this is going to exhaust Poseidon of all things. Who knows how it will treat Megami.]
In that case...
[He grips Megami's hand a bit tighter, leaning in to press a brief kiss to his lips.]
I love you too. No matter what happens, I will keep you safe. And I will wait for you.
[ He presses their foreheads together for a moment after the kiss ends, wanting to enjoy what could very well be their final moment together for a while (or... ever...). ]
Thank you...
[ And then he separates from him and releases his hand. ]
[It's hard to leave him like this...curled up in the corner of this cave, covered in injuries and surrounded by the remnants of something precious to him. But Poseidon has work to do, and it could take him a while to complete. So after lingering as long as he can, he picks up his trident and gets back up to his feet, forcing himself not to look back as he exits the cave.
Once his feet hit the sand, he starts to run towards a rocky outcropping on the edge of the island. He uses that to leap from and dive headfirst back into the ocean, his trident splitting the sea ahead of him to quicken his descent. In the same instance, he grows in size and shifts back into his mer form, blue bolts of energy swirling and crackling around his body as he grows bigger....and bigger...and yet bigger still.
And Poseidon doesn't stop growing until he towers over the tallest point of the very island itself, having become larger than the mountain. The amount of energy coursing through him is astronomical, so much so that his eyes glow so bright that they're pinpricks of light looking out from his face down at the island below him. He will need that level of energy to actually do this, not only manipulating the course of Megami's lake, but also reshaping the land while keeping it intact at the same time.
Megami will be able to see- and feel- when it starts. The entire world seems to light up blue, like a flash of lightning that never stops. It fills the little cave that Megami hides in as a spear of energy shoots from Poseidon's trident, lined up to strike the edge of one of the far sides of Megami's lake. Luckily, all the frogs left with Poseidon and stayed in the grass near where Megami had ended up, sparing them from being unintentionally fried in the process. Because the energy coming from his trident is molten hot, strong enough to split the earth and rocks and send the water rushing into the trough he creates, widening it and making it deeper as he goes.
He has a long way to traverse, and the lake itself only has so much water it can fill. But if it was always meant to be a river, and has remained the lake it is for this long...then Poseidon is confident that it will survive the shift.]
[ The bright light catches Megami's attention and though he has to shield himself from it, he feels compelled to watch it.
But as the water begins to flow through the trough being created, he feels... different. Something inside him seems to resonate, this feeling of "finally"... just, "finally". Somehow things are clicking into place. Somehow something feels right.
He doesn't even realize the green colour his eyes and fingertips have begun to glow. ]
[Tirelessly, Poseidon continues to work. He lets his anger towards Adranus fuel him, as well as his desire to bring Megami fully into their family. The river starts to slowly take shape as he makes his way down the island, water rushing in towards the opening as fast as Poseidon creates it. It leaves the lake half the depth it was and shrinking all the time, so he hopes that the frogs will be okay in the newly created river for a while...
Half an hour passes as he blasts away chunks of rock and starts getting to the sand of the beach with the ocean itself in sight. By now, Poseidon can feel his strength beginning to wane, but he has to remain his massive size to actually be able to do this. So he keeps working, watching as the river becomes wider and longer still...until finally, he reaches the shore proper, hollowing out the mouth of the river so it can flow directly into the sea.]
[Poseidon doesn't know that Megami has left. All he knows is that he cannot keep this monstrous appearance up much longer. He goes back over the entire stretch of river a second time, cleaning up areas he might have missed and nudging stray rocks back into place to keep uneven pools from forming that he didn't intend to create. It's not the prettiest, but it should wear itself into proper shape over time.
But as he completes the river, he starts to shrink, trembling as he goes. The light glowing all around him flickers and fades, and the god gets smaller and smaller...and even smaller still, shrinking back down to Megami's size as opposed to what he is normally.
[ While dirt had tained the water on its way through the new river, the water remaining in the lake has now lost its almost magical look as well. While it still looks pure and unpolluted, it just looks like a lake now, not a holy place. Has since the water reached the ocean.
Its powers are gone.
Poseidon might notice Megami soon, depending on where he is, as the goddess keeps walking, until he finally come to the edge of the new river. His eyes are transfixed on it as his body continues to glow.
And then suddenly he transform into his snake form, not the tiny one or the giant one but something more between that... and dives straight into the river. ]
[Poseidon has to brace himself against a rock in the ocean, exhausted by all of the energy he'd just poured out. He's not entirely sure how much longer he'll be able to stay above water like this, but...the only thing keeping him up is the fact that he suddenly spots Megami wandering out of that cave. He's...glowing, for some reason, and walks all the way over to the river's edge, transforms, and dives into it with no hesitation.]
M-Megami-
[Poseidon's voice is weak as he calls out, slipping down against the rock as he tries to hold himself up, keeping his eyes focused on that glowing spot in the water.]
