[ He presses their foreheads together for a moment after the kiss ends, wanting to enjoy what could very well be their final moment together for a while (or... ever...). ]
Thank you...
[ And then he separates from him and releases his hand. ]
[It's hard to leave him like this...curled up in the corner of this cave, covered in injuries and surrounded by the remnants of something precious to him. But Poseidon has work to do, and it could take him a while to complete. So after lingering as long as he can, he picks up his trident and gets back up to his feet, forcing himself not to look back as he exits the cave.
Once his feet hit the sand, he starts to run towards a rocky outcropping on the edge of the island. He uses that to leap from and dive headfirst back into the ocean, his trident splitting the sea ahead of him to quicken his descent. In the same instance, he grows in size and shifts back into his mer form, blue bolts of energy swirling and crackling around his body as he grows bigger....and bigger...and yet bigger still.
And Poseidon doesn't stop growing until he towers over the tallest point of the very island itself, having become larger than the mountain. The amount of energy coursing through him is astronomical, so much so that his eyes glow so bright that they're pinpricks of light looking out from his face down at the island below him. He will need that level of energy to actually do this, not only manipulating the course of Megami's lake, but also reshaping the land while keeping it intact at the same time.
Megami will be able to see- and feel- when it starts. The entire world seems to light up blue, like a flash of lightning that never stops. It fills the little cave that Megami hides in as a spear of energy shoots from Poseidon's trident, lined up to strike the edge of one of the far sides of Megami's lake. Luckily, all the frogs left with Poseidon and stayed in the grass near where Megami had ended up, sparing them from being unintentionally fried in the process. Because the energy coming from his trident is molten hot, strong enough to split the earth and rocks and send the water rushing into the trough he creates, widening it and making it deeper as he goes.
He has a long way to traverse, and the lake itself only has so much water it can fill. But if it was always meant to be a river, and has remained the lake it is for this long...then Poseidon is confident that it will survive the shift.]
[ The bright light catches Megami's attention and though he has to shield himself from it, he feels compelled to watch it.
But as the water begins to flow through the trough being created, he feels... different. Something inside him seems to resonate, this feeling of "finally"... just, "finally". Somehow things are clicking into place. Somehow something feels right.
He doesn't even realize the green colour his eyes and fingertips have begun to glow. ]
[Tirelessly, Poseidon continues to work. He lets his anger towards Adranus fuel him, as well as his desire to bring Megami fully into their family. The river starts to slowly take shape as he makes his way down the island, water rushing in towards the opening as fast as Poseidon creates it. It leaves the lake half the depth it was and shrinking all the time, so he hopes that the frogs will be okay in the newly created river for a while...
Half an hour passes as he blasts away chunks of rock and starts getting to the sand of the beach with the ocean itself in sight. By now, Poseidon can feel his strength beginning to wane, but he has to remain his massive size to actually be able to do this. So he keeps working, watching as the river becomes wider and longer still...until finally, he reaches the shore proper, hollowing out the mouth of the river so it can flow directly into the sea.]
[Poseidon doesn't know that Megami has left. All he knows is that he cannot keep this monstrous appearance up much longer. He goes back over the entire stretch of river a second time, cleaning up areas he might have missed and nudging stray rocks back into place to keep uneven pools from forming that he didn't intend to create. It's not the prettiest, but it should wear itself into proper shape over time.
But as he completes the river, he starts to shrink, trembling as he goes. The light glowing all around him flickers and fades, and the god gets smaller and smaller...and even smaller still, shrinking back down to Megami's size as opposed to what he is normally.
[ While dirt had tained the water on its way through the new river, the water remaining in the lake has now lost its almost magical look as well. While it still looks pure and unpolluted, it just looks like a lake now, not a holy place. Has since the water reached the ocean.
Its powers are gone.
Poseidon might notice Megami soon, depending on where he is, as the goddess keeps walking, until he finally come to the edge of the new river. His eyes are transfixed on it as his body continues to glow.
And then suddenly he transform into his snake form, not the tiny one or the giant one but something more between that... and dives straight into the river. ]
[Poseidon has to brace himself against a rock in the ocean, exhausted by all of the energy he'd just poured out. He's not entirely sure how much longer he'll be able to stay above water like this, but...the only thing keeping him up is the fact that he suddenly spots Megami wandering out of that cave. He's...glowing, for some reason, and walks all the way over to the river's edge, transforms, and dives into it with no hesitation.]
M-Megami-
[Poseidon's voice is weak as he calls out, slipping down against the rock as he tries to hold himself up, keeping his eyes focused on that glowing spot in the water.]
[ It might be hard to do that, because very soon the glowing spot begins to move and quickly. Megami's white snake form speeds up the river to the lake, then down to where it meets the shore, then back to the lake, back to the shore, over and over back and forth...
As he does the imperfections of the river start to fix themselves and while it may not have been the prettiest when Poseidon was done... it's becoming a lot nicer now. Megami is making it nicer just by existing in it, by making it his, by finalizing the flow and putting on the finishing touches... and he doesn't even realize he's doing it.
And then he goes out to sea.
And keeps going
And going
Until finally before he can get too far into the deep, quickly turns and comes back.
He finds Poseidon and comes straight to him, slipping under an arm and keeping him up. The glow has faded from his now. ]
[Poseidon watches as Megami zips up and down the river, and eventually he loses sight of him long before he makes it out to sea. To that end, having the snake come up under his arm suddenly startles him a bit, though he does relax against him when he realizes that it's Megami.]
I...w...what happened?
[He might have successfully moved Megami's home from lake to river, but...what was all of that about?]
[ He's gonna start steering Poseidon back to the shore so neither of them is fighting to stay above water and can just... talk for a moment before the toll of all this catches up to him. ]
You... were right. About me being a river god. I understand now what my real purpose was and how I came to misunderstand it so deeply...
[ Once he gets to the shore, he transforms back into his natural form, letting the tide wash over his tail as he looks towards the new river. ]
I was not put here by mistake-- or maybe I was. But potamoi are not simply given rivers.
They... they have to make their own. And I... had forgotten this. Because I had grown too comfortable with where I was for so very long...
[Given the fact Poseidon refuses to think anything poorly of Megami, this...is actually news to him. Of course he still knows only as much as Megami has told him when it comes to lake and river spirits...but it would make sense. Megami, this whole time, was in fact a river god...but he just. Didn't do what he was supposed to. That's literally it.
Poseidon exhales deeply once they both make it to shore, laying in the sand on his side while a heavy, deep seated exhausted starts to settle into his body.]
I cannot believe this...all this time...you were meant to be connected to my ocean.
I suppose... it explains a lot, doesn't it? Always meant to be connected... always meant to be with you.
[ He smiles softly and fondly, reaching over to brush Poseidon's bangs out of his face ]
I got... so excited being in it... I felt so free. In a way I never have. And I went so far out to sea, farther than I've ever gone and I should be able to... leave... now......
[ But then he starts to feel the loss of the lake's power, along with exhausting his own to finish the lake, creep up on him. He sways, his eyes looking dark, and then promptly falls onto his side as well, eyes closed. ]
Edited (makes this a bit more sweet) 2017-10-13 21:46 (UTC)
[Poseidon jumps when Megami falls over, quickly leaning himself up so he can pull a bit closer to him before going still again.]
Save your strength...we will be able to talk all about it whenever you are back to yourself.
[He smiles, and for the first time in days since Choromatsu came back home, Poseidon looks genuinely happy. Relieved, even. Because now, even if it's a while yet...Megami can come into the ocean. He can live with his family, like he was always meant to.
Poseidon reaches out, then, wrapping one of his arms around Megami so he can pull him against his front, tucking his chin against his shoulder.]
[ Megami groans a little, to show he's not completely out yet and his own annoyance at not being able to stay awake longer... but Poseidon is right. ]
All... right...
[ He is going fast though, he can tell... but he's grateful to be like this while embraced by the one he loves at least. No longer just a "future betrothed" but now officially his fiancee, his husband once he wakes up again...
He finds himself smiling as well. ]
Thank... you...
[ And then he's out, fallen in his coma, looking like he's just soundly asleep ]
[That's one of the only things keeping Poseidon okay with this, honestly. The knowledge that he successfully completed Megami's quest, and now they can be properly wed. It makes him a bit emotional to think about, honestly, but the hard part is done.
As Megami falls unconscious, Poseidon curls up close beside him, keeping their heads near so he can protect him while he rests. He doesn't have the strength yet to move himself, but he's close enough to the water that if some unwanted company decided to show, he'd be able to get them both to safety.
For the entire day, Poseidon rests in the sand with Megami, the ocean waves washing up over them both periodically to keep him from drying out. He falls in and out of consciousness himself, startling awake every hour or so to make sure Megami is still there.
By the time the sun has long since gone down and the moon illuminates the island, Poseidon wakes up at half strength. It's enough for him to move again, and that means it's time to go home. Poseidon rises from the sand and pushes his arms beneath Megami, holding him tightly against his chest as he lets the ocean waves carry them both back out to sea...away from the island, and more importantly, away from Adranus' scrutinizing eye. At least, for now.
Unbeknownst to the sleeping Megami, Poseidon carries him all the way back to their home in the reef. He scarcely makes it through the entrance before he's overwhelmed by his children, all of them talking at once and clambering to see Megami in his arms. He'd been gone a very long time, after all...and they'd started to get worried. They also don't understand how or why Megami is here now, but Poseidon tries to explain as best he can as he brings Megami back to his own quiet room. He has at least enough strength to erect somewhere for Megami to rest: a bed of kelp in a half shell similar to where his sons sleep, only much larger. He sets him gently there, warning their children not to bother him. He knew they wouldn't listen, but...he tried, at least.
The sea king gives Megami one last parting kiss, much to the dismay of the mers watching behind him, before shooing them all out and back to their own room, having to field even more questions about Megami being okay, him staying here, what happened to the crown they made...
