[Usually, Osomatsu and his brothers were fine being left alone for the day. They preferred it, actually. But for the past three days, one of their brothers had been missing, and with their father leaving them alone and demanding they stay put at the reef...it was nerve wracking to say the least. The eldest had already gotten in trouble for trying to leave once, effectively grounded and refusing to even speak to Poseidon after that, leaving his count at two with sons not talking to him. You would think that would be enough to make Osomatsu actually stay put...but Poseidon stops by late in the evening, and even though Osomatsu can't see him and refuses to come out of their room, he can hear him.
His voice is stern and a touch frantic as he orders his children to remain where they are, explaining things as briefly as he can before leaving again. It understandably leaves the others all stirred up to the point where Osomatsu finally wanders out when he hears them talking about Choromatsu who is, somehow, back in the sea. He's in some sort of trouble...and now Poseidon is going to him.
But Osomatsu...he's not convinced that the sea king will be able to do anything. He's mad at him enough, but he clearly wasn't able to keep Choromatsu in the water to begin with, how could he help him now? In the end, he makes a split second decision without thinking about it: he tells Karamatsu that he's in charge, and then he leaves the reef before the others can stop him.
He leaves, and he follows the wake of his father all the way to Totoko's domain...but when he arrives only in time to peer through the ceiling of her cave to see what's happened, it's already too late. Poseidon...he's...
Powerless.
Back at Megami's island, he will notice at some point that the storm that Poseidon had caused had stopped. The clouds were still gathered overhead, but the water had become eerily still, almost glassy. Not even the wind could churn the water. And eventually, somewhere in that water among a cluster of rocks near the island's far edge, a red little mer clings to a rock and shivers as he tries to peer over at the island ahead...because he knows that the goddess has to be here, he has to be.
[ After Poseidon had left and Megami finished watching him off, the goddess had sought refuge from the rain under some trees nearby, refusing to let the ocean out of his sight. The way things had gone, he was far too worried to return to his lake until he knew for sure both Poseidon and wayward son were safe.
But the way the ocean had become now...
Something was wrong. And he knew it. He had watched the ocean since the day he had been put here by his father, and he'd never seen anything like this...
Inside, Megami was regretting not warning Poseidon to be safe... he should have said at least something but--
--And then he notices the red mer.
He freezes, then after a moment walks closer to the shore. He doesn't say anything or go to him yet but he's in clear view.
[The stillness of the water is scary to him, too. Being in it is like not being in water at all unless you're moving...there's zero motion to it. Even the currents have ceased to be. Which might be why he's hanging onto this rock like he is, staying just enough out of the water so it can still feel like something while he searches the island for any sign of...
...him.
Osomatsu goes very still, staring wide eyed at the goddess. He's never been face to face with other gods or goddesses before, and he thought it'd be easy to just go up to him, but...now he finds himself momentarily frozen, and slightly wishing he hadn't left in the first place.
Eventually though, he lets go of the rock and disappears beneath the surface of the water again with barely a ripple, swimming until he's nearly at the shore. He resurfaces then, just his head barely visible above the water as he eyes Megami, skeptical but desperate.]
[ He almost starts slithering to shore, but then stops and considers that their sons may not be as receptive to a snake tail as their father is, so before Osomatsu can get a close enough look he switches back to legs.
He tries to smile for him, if just to put him at ease, but his own worry hinders the sincerity. He's right up to where the water stops now, kneeling.
...what does he even say? YES, IT'S ME, YOUR MOTHER? That's way too strong... ]
[Hm. The legs...possibly unnerve him more than the tail would, because it makes him look human. And while he's always been a troublemaker and curious about the surface in a similar fashion to Choromatsu, he's also got higher self preservation in the vein of not wanting humans near him, lest they eat him in the hopes they will become immortal.
But there's no mistaking who this is. No human would just live on an island alone, much less know who he is. Still, Osomatsu opts for staying in the water a few feet away from where Megami has knelt.
He swallows thickly before saying anything else, his gaze narrowing.]
You gotta come help us, right now. Something's wrong with dad.
[Poseidon's talked to his children about Megami, but he hasn't gone into indepth detail about their plans to save Megami from his island prison...there's a chance that Osomatsu doesn't even know he can't leave. Either because he just didn't listen, or Poseidon didn't mention it yet. It's only been a few days, and all...]
[Osomatsu's fins pin against the sides of his head. He can't meet Megami's gaze for a moment.]
I- I dunno, alright? I wasn't even supposed to leave...but he keeps telling us to stay home, stay in the reef and don't go anywhere, but what are we supposed to do? Sit around while Choromatsu is gone? While he's gone?
[He does look up at Megami, then. He looks...scared.]
It's that sea witch, from when we were kids. They were talking, but I couldn't hear what it was...and then she did something to him.
[He swims a bit closer to the shore, reaching for the rocks embedded in the shore beneath the water in front of him so he doesn't float away.]
But you can do something, right? You're a god too! You have to do something!
[ Megami's risen to his feet now, hand over his own mouth. Seeing Osomatsu's fear as he's explaining makes his heart break even more. He knew that witch had been up to something-- using Choromatsu just to get at Poseidon had likely been her plan all along and now it was too late...
But... what he's being asked of...
He lowers his hand to his chest. ]

I'm... I'm not like the kind of god your father is...
[ Hey you know what conversation he doesn't want to be having while the love of his life is getting fucked up?

But he's going to... do his best to not completely break down about his own uselessness if just for Osomatsu's sake. But where does he... begin... ]
...I... am what's known as a minor god. You father is a higher god, hence his size and great power. But minor gods... are not like that. We often have a specific power set... specific roles. Mine was to grant the wishes of others. But all of my wish granting came at the cost of my own power... my strength, my energy, even my life.
And all of my power... was used up to create you and your brothers. I have not been able to recover it all yet, even all these years later. There are a few things I'm capable of, but all would be useless in this situation.

[Honestly, Megami is...probably seeing a rather rare sight right now. Out of all his siblings, Osomatsu never cries. At least, they hadn't seen him cry. Not since they were all very young. He does a rather good job of keeping all of his emotions bottled up, but this...this has all been too much. He lost Choromatsu, and now he's on the verge of losing his dad, too.
He's not sure he wants to come over, both scared and hesitant since he only knows of Megami from what Poseidon had told them...but eventually, he swims closer until he can't swim anymore, somewhat beaching himself on the edge of the shore while still giving himself room to flee back into the water if he needs to. He isn't looking at Megami, refusing to meet his gaze since he knows yet more tears are starting to escape.]
[ Megami gets a bit closer, just enough that he can wrap his arms around Osomatsu's shoulders and pull him into a loose hug, one that the other can easily escape from if he so wishes. One of his hands strokes his hair. ]
[Osomatsu stiffens the moment he's touched, but it doesn't last long, really. He hasn't allowed himself to cry or be upset about anything at all save for the comfort and complete isolation of his room, so when Megami tries comforting him, he's not entirely sure how to handle it.
...he handles it poorly, and pretty quickly starts crying fully, choking up as he tries just as hard not to.
What he saw back there isn't something he's going to be able to forget. He's not sure what Totoko even did to his father, but he's not okay. He's not even entirely sure he's alive...all he knows is that she had his trident. No one in the entire ocean could command the trident other than Poseidon himself, yet she was carrying it...using it...
He drops his head against Megami's shoulder, his tail curling up against his side as he leans against him and sobs, wondering what happened to Choromatsu now. Was he okay? Did Totoko still have him with her? Did she trick Poseidon after all, regardless...?
Osomatsu's a hair away from hysterics, but he manages to keep his crying from turning into hiccups as he looks up at Megami with tears still falling freely, his hands reaching up now to grip the loose folds of his toga.]
Y...you're 'sposed to me my Mom, right? ...you have to help us...please...
[Osomatsu isn't sure what to do, or even say at this point, but he nods when Megami sets him back down as he wipes at his face with the heels of both hands. He isn't going anywhere right now, too afraid to dare go back into an ocean that doesn't belong to his father anymore, and unsure of what he might find if he did go back.
[ Once he's sure Osomatsu will be okay on his own for the moment, he runs back to his lake as quickly as his human legs can carry him. Now that he's out of Osomatsu's sight though, he finds he can't hold back his own breakdown anymore, and after tripping on an exposed root, he finds himself coming apart, wailing and crying as it hits him all at once that Poseidon might very well be dead now. But he can't write him off as such yet, and Choromatsu, Osomatsu and the other children need him right now. So after giving himself a moment, he shakily rises back to his feet and continues running to the lake.
Once he gets there he dives inside and immediately goes for his pile of treasures. There has to be something in here...
He debates trying to contact the other higher gods... but there's no time. And if they had intended to do something to help they would have by now. Poseidon couldn't rely on them to cure his loneliness, and Megami couldn't rely on them to do something about his island... neither of them can rely on them now, as cruel as it may be.
Eventually he finds a sheathed tanto blade. It'd been left at his shrine as a sign of gratitude from a warrior from another island long ago, and while more so a decorative piece, it was still sharp and untarnished thanks to Megami's magic.
It'll have to do.
Leaving the lake he returns, mud still staining his toga where he fell and his human legs now back to snake form, in too much of a hurry to change back once out of the water. He's out of breath when he returns, clutching the still sheathed weapon in both hands. Give him just a moment. ]
[In hindsight, Megami hadn't kept Osomatsu waiting too long, but it still felt like an eternity to him. He'd never been on shore for this long before, and the feeling of the dry air was strange against his skin and body. He tried to keep his tail beneath the water, but the waves had entirely stopped...it was hard. Nevertheless, he can't help but continue to silently cry while Megami is gone, coming up with increasingly worse case scenarios while he sits there and thinks about what could be happening down there.
He jumps when Megami comes back, his eyes widening a touch when he sees the snake half of his lower body. Dad hadn't mentioned that...
But then his gaze falls on the object in his hands.]
[A wish? This isn't like getting granted a genie wish that could easily backfire if you don't word it exactly right, is it...no, those are just stories. Megami wouldn't do something like that, not when something like this is at stake.
So Osomatsu takes a slow breath, keeping his eyes locked on the knife in Megami's hands.]
I wish...for a way to save my dad and my brother. ....Please.
[ Okay now there's no bullshit hang ups about him being kinda ~selfish~ to want to save people he cares about, now it's a wish and he don't gotta worry about that. ]

[ Good(?) thing Osomatsu's eyes are on the knife, because he gets to see Megami suddenly wrap his own hand around the blade... tight.
He cringes for a moment as it cuts into his palm, blood already running down the blade, his other hand clutching the handle until his knuckles turn white as a way to cope with the pain. Eventually the blade begins to glow a green colour, illuminating the dark just a little bit.
Only once the glow dies down does Megami withdraw his injured hand, panting for breath as he reaches to retrieve the discarded sheath. The blade still has some blood on it, but it has a weird green tinge to the rest of it. Megami sheathes it, then holds it out to Osomatsu, still out of breath as he tries to explain. ]
This knife... now has the power to undo any magic... break any magic contract no matter how strong... you just... need to stab... the witch...
[ He's shaking now but he's trying to keep it together just a little longer... ]
[Osomatsu almost reaches out for Megami reflexively when he cuts his hand along the blade, at least until he realizes that he'd done it on purpose. He's not sure he would have agreed to make the wish if he knew he was going to do that, but...this is a matter of life or death. Whatever he's giving him is going to be the only hope that they have, otherwise Megami doing anything at all would be a waste.
He reaches out and carefully takes the blade, holding it close to his front as Megami explain's its use. But it doesn't stop Osomatsu from paling, watching how the goddess struggles to breathe.
Stab the witch? Him?? That's...going to be impossible, but at least he has something now that can help, assuming anyone can get close enough to her to use it.]
Because only a few seconds after Osomatsu takes the knife and asks that does Megami sway, and suddenly collapses, landing on his side. His eyes stay closed and he looks like he's in pain, still shaking and struggling to breathe.
Osomatsu very nearly fumbles the knife into the water, then, but manages to keep his grip on it as Megami falls over onto the sand. He quickly takes the knife and shoves it into a pouch at his side, quickly drawing it shut before dragging himself as close to Megami as he can get, unable to get farther than where the shallows meet the sand.]
You're not fine! You look like you're about to pass out!
[Or...are on the verge of it...
The mer lingers, at a loss as to what to do.]
