[Poseidon is silent for a moment after he says that, the fins on the sides of his head flaring in silent anger.]

He can try. He has an entire sea to get through if he wants to come near you again.

[ His tail tightens, and his buries his face in Poseidon's palm to try and stop himself from becoming emotional again. Someone actually promising to protect him... His voice is shaky ] Th... Thank you...

[Poseidon is kept from becoming the same by just...seething anger that he has to keep bottled up, not wanting to upset Megami by being too Visibly Angry.]

Of course. No means no. Even if we were not close, I would not stand for that kind of behavior.

[Poseidon could be considered a bit of an odd duck in that sense. None of his brothers had ever treated relationships as anything lasting or bonding like Poseidon. They didn't have too many problems with sleeping around as often as it struck their fancy, though at least they were relatively decent most of the time.

The sea king huffs, slowly shifting to lay down on his side in the sand. He keeps Megami in his hand, but instead rests the back of it against the ground so he can give his forearms a break.]

I understand that you can stand up for yourself, if he ever approached you again on your own...but I still implore you to be careful.

I... I will. Believe me, I will...

I've... stood up to him in the past... and it never worked. If anything it just spurred him on more... he is one of the ones I mentioned that viewed my "feistiness" as attractive. Always said that he wanted me because I was a water god with "fire in my eyes"...

[ he curls up then, holding his arms with his hands. it's... not great to think about ]

[This volcano god better be glad that Poseidon has never met him. He is certain they would not have gotten along...for more than one reason.]

Do not let that sort of talk deter you. It is your "feistiness" that has protected you up until now...I have my doubts that he would have hesitated to claim you for his own had you shown him any lack of defiance.

But at the same time, he sees it as a challenge... [He growls.] Perhaps by the time he dares to return, he will have found that you are already long since taken. ...perhaps that you are no longer even here to come to.

I... I hope so. Truthfully, nothing would be better than if I never have to see him again. He is... an infuriating person, and for the obvious reasons I detest him wholly. ...It has been a while though. Perhaps he has moved on or forgotten. [ god he can only hope ] But most of all in general I would just like to be with you sooner rather than later...

[Poseidon can't help but hope the same. Maybe he got bored and really did find himself another flame to chase...one a lot more easily persuaded, perhaps.

That gets a smile out of him, amused and a bit sad seeing how things are at the moment.]

Do not worry. I am still working on figuring something out...I just want to ensure that whatever my attempt at a solution is, it keeps you from getting hurt.

And I appreciate that. [ he smiles again, reaching out for the closest finger his hand can rest on ] I've been here for so long... as much as I want to be with you now, I can wait a little longer.

Heh...when it comes to beings like us, it pays to be patient. But I will not keep you waiting long.

[He keeps his finger still so as not to jostle Megami too much, his tail flicking in the water.]

I do not know what I would be doing with myself if I had not had you these past few days. ...regrettable things, surely.

I'm just glad I was able to help some way... ah, but I've said that already, haven't I? We keep going in circles like this... [ not that he minds of course, he's even chuckling softly about it ] Hey, Poseidon... what's life in the ocean like? [ if they're going to be wed he should learn more about his future new home and his husband... and he's always been kinda curious ]

What is it like?

[Ah, what a question...the sea king's expression turns wistful, and he looks out to the sea in question.]

It is very vast. It has the power and capacity to make even I, a god, feel very small. No matter where you look, even if it is seemingly empty, the water teems with life. Big, small, microscopic...and for the most part, it is peaceful. There are networks of reefs where my people live, and our sons and I reside in the largest portion of it at the very center of it all.

A... reef? If... you do not mind me asking, what is that? I fear I am not familiar...

[karappo]

...oh. I suppose you have never seen one, have you?

[That's actually kindof cute...as well as sad.]

Reefs are like...underwater cities. They are comprised of living coral, algae, anemones, fish of thousands of different species. They are totally alive.

[matteimasu]

Oh! Oh my...! [ that sounds amazing??? ] I had no idea such a thing existed! And you all truly live in one? [ which means HE'LL get to live there too ]

[karappo]

We do. The one we live in overlooks the reef that stretches along the seabed where the other merfolk live, as well as a good portion of the open sea.

[It's a pretty nice place to be, if he does say so himself.]

Does that sort of thing interest you?

[matteimasu]

Oh yes, it does! Quite so honestly. My lake is... nice. Simple and nice, but it has nothing like that!

[karappo]

There is something to be said about simplicity. Sometimes I wish I could experience that...not that I do not enjoy the oftentimes hectic hustle and bustle of the ocean. I think it is something you would like, given the way you have lived all this time.

[He pauses, thinking.]

Does nothing else live with you in your lake?

[matteimasu]

Oh, there are a few things. Mostly frogs and turtles though... snails and the like too. ...No fish however. There is no river to the lake so there was never a way for them to reach it.

[karappo]

[He can definitely imagine Megami making friends with the various fauna that visit his lake...but it's a little sad that there are no fish, he thinks.]

Er...are these turtles different from sea turtles? And I do not believe I've seen a frog before...

[matteimasu]

Oh yes! The ones around my lake are a smaller breed, they're not quite as impressive as sea turtles, though they are quite cute. [ Poseidon has never seen a frog before though... oh no that won't do ] Frogs are my favorite though! They're so cute and always making noise! And before they grow their legs they look like little fish! You must see one! [ HOW MEGAMI....... ]

I have never heard of such a thing...how can a fish grow legs?

Because they're not actually fish at all! They're amphibians, neither fish or reptile. But they lay their eggs in the water, so the babies need to be able to live there for a while. They even have gills at first! Not only do they grow legs they breathe through their skin! They're remarkable!

[...He's not sure if he'd call breathing through your skin remarkable. It's kindof weird...but no less weird than being a fish or snake person, he guesses.]

I do not quite understand why water born creatures would need legs, in that case...though I do suppose sea turtles have them, and are born on land...

Are they docile?
