[Avoiding the sea was something Takumi had been told so long that, until recently, he never really thought much about it. None of his family went near it- the the point they even sent their retainers if there was any royal business on ships or the like. Ryoma never went, even in the most desperate times.
Mikoto had told him, once, that Sumeragi's family wasn't allowed back- lakes and rivers and rain were fine, but never ever go near the sea. Azura could, and when they returned Corrin could. But not them.
In fact, it was Corrin returning and splashing on the beach with no care that made him finally think about it. He couldn't just walk brazenly out there like his adopted siblings could: if anyone saw him he'd be in so much trouble. But a few maps and research lead him to find a small cove not far away, tucked away enough that an excuse of going hunting for the night gave him the chance to investigate.
He wasn't brave enough yet to even dip his toes in, but sitting on the rocks and listening to the waves crashing was... exciting, even when the sun set]
[He startles at first, thinking one of Ryoma's ninja found him. But that's silly, they'd never be that loud.
His next thought is some large sea creature beached itself, and his belly rumbled. Strangely, even though they were disallowed near the water, they all adored sea food.
[ At the sound of the shouting all the noise stops.
When Takumi comes out to the beach he'll see that his first assumption that something beached itself was more correct than his drowning one. There's someone laying on the beach, most of their body still in the shallow water and they... appear to be wrapped up in a net?
Whoever they are they've stopped moving now that they've seen Takumi. ]
[He LOOKS Hoshidan, but there were many smaller nations out at sea- maybe he thought Takumi would take him captive? Either way, he probably should talk him down... But tact is not Takumi's strong point. So instead he runs over and grabs the end of the net before he gets further into the water]
[He doesn't notice at first thanks to getting splashed by all the water. He had half expected it to burn or something- but no, he's fine. Stupid supersti- WTF THAT'S A FISH]
[ He's out of the water now and just... flopping and squirming uselessly. Apparently his entire body got tangled in the net, and some of his fins have gotten caught so bad, the rope is cutting into them, causing them to bleed.

Other people like to go to them when they don't want to be notice too. Or in this case, other creatures.
Which is why you might hear some splashing right now Takumi... ]

So he sneaks closer, picturing some massive crab]

LET GO!! LEAVE ME ALONE! I DON'T EVEN TASTE ANY GOOD!
[ ...which seems like a strange statement to make but
well as Takumi pulls him out more he'll find that uh
There aren't any legs.
Instead all of that splashing is being caused by a big, floppy fishtail. ]
of course you have a flailing bondage icon on standby
What the hell?!
don't judge me ho
But the mer's thoughts are just in panic mode. ]
PLEASE DON'T EAT ME!

[I mean, that knife he's pulling probably isn't helping, but he's strong enough to partially pin the flailing fish and start cutting him loose]
