[He can very easily envision both Osomatsu and Choromatsu setting off on a quest to find their long lost mother...only to come swimming back when something in the darkness of the open sea at night spooked them.]
I am glad you acknowledge that as being stupid now.
[Choromatsu you are literally his only son who would say that now and he loves you for it.]
Ah, well...childhood is a time for mischief and doing your share of stupid things, non? I know you all sure had a blast with one another when you were younger...and got up to your gills in trouble, too.
Perhaps...but now you are adults, meaning that you should know better. And that any real trouble you get into more has yourselves to blame than my lack of keeping an eye on you.
[He reaches out and gently pats the top of Choromatsu's head with a finger.]
But I still plan to do that, no matter how big you grow.
[He was going to say something just then- something about asking if he's sure he doesn't need it- but what Choromatsu does then catches him by surprise, leading him to draw his hands back to his sides.]
[It takes a second for it to click, but when it does he's on the move pretty immediately. He snatches up his Trident from the ground and turns in place so he can exit the cavern and swim back in the direction of where he usually sleeps.
As expected, it is a lot, lot larger than where Choromatsu and his brothers sleep, even though their own part of the reef is larger than probably any other child has ever experienced. Poseidon's area by contrast is more space that a Mer of Choromatsu's size could really comprehend, culminating in a shelf carved out from the reef probably by the god himself and covered in all manner of soft materials from seaweed to kelp as a form of bedding.]
[ He was satisfied with just sleeping on his dad's shoulder in the cavern but then before he knows it, they're in Poseidon's actual sleeping area.
...He hasn't been in here in a long time. Though he remembers the last times well... the days where he was in here recovering, his father not leaving his side, and then the subsequent nights where he'd swim in here after a nightmare to find dad already waiting for him...
[...honestly, in his heart of hearts, he was hoping Choromatsu would say that.
He nods and swims over to the bed of sorts, putting his trident aside and settling sideways onto it in such a way that Choromatsu can remain on his shoulder without slipping off. Then, he folds his arms beneath his head to lay down, looking up at him out of the corner of his eye.]
It has already gotten rather late in the evening...so you may sleep as much as you would like. Are you comfortable?
[Hm...well, that's pretty easily remedied. He responds by reaching up and carefully pulling his hair free from the way it's usually pulled back, letting it fall down freely so it can more or less blanket Choromatsu.]
[He breathes a slow sigh. He wishes they were all here...but he's glad even just one of them wants to be here with him. It makes him feel...content. And safe, despite the fact that he has nothing in the world to fear, save the fears he harbors for his children.
He uses a fingertip to brush back Choromatsu's bangs, briefly.]
[ Choromatsu pauses for a moment... not because of any hesitation but something in him is giving him a bad feeling... the guilt he's been carrying, maybe? ]
[Honestly, at this point, Poseidon is probably more content with this arrangement than his son even is...so much so that, not long after Choromatsu says that, his eyelids droop...and he starts to doze.
[ So the thing is? Choromatsu wasn't even actually that tired. He just wanted to make Poseidon feel better. So as the god dozes off, Choromatsu is still wide awake.
But he doesn't leave. He stays. And he sings. To his father like Poseidon would sing to him. It's not the song he was teaching him earlier, but one Choromatsu himself has been coming up with on his own... not necessarily intended originally for his father but relevant enough that it's what comes to his mind anyway ]
If only you could know the things I long to say If only I could tell you what I wish I could convey It's in my every glance, my heart's an open book You'd see it all at once if only you would look
If only you could glimpse the feeling that I feel If only you would notice what I'm dying to reveal The dreams I can't declare, the needs I can't deny You'd understand them all if only you would try
All my secrets, you would learn them All my longings, you'd... approve them Then the silence would be broken Not a word would need be spoken
If only it were true, if only for a while If only you would notice how I ache beneath my smile I guess you never will, I guess it doesn't show But if I never find a way to tell you so...
[ he stops there, trailing off... then realizes he's just making himself sad now. So he sighs and wraps himself up with more hair, starting to doze off himself ]

A little but nothing a nap can't fix.

O...okay! Yes, okay-

Mm. Though I guess... well, maybe it's a bit chillier in here than I remember it being.

Better?

Haha, now it really does feel like when I was a kid again.
