Mmhm. It was very strange...for the longest time I cared for an egg, waiting and wondering while I kept it safe from harm...and then, one day, you all came one by one.

It made me realize that this world is a lot bigger, a lot more important than even the things I do for it. I always had a purpose before, but now it is only strengthened to make sure you live happy, healthy lives.

[ shit... is this just a human concept? he thought merfolk might "adopt" too and he just never heard about it but... ]

M-My friend... he says that he has "adopted sisters". And a second mother? [ who is ALSO dead. TRIPLE DEAD PARENTS. ]

He said it's when parents take in a child that doesn't have any.

[It...really was more of a human concept, honestly, because the concept of adoption wasn't something merfolk really did all that often. Parents were exceptionally proud to have children of their own, specifically of their own blood...and most of the time if a child lost their parents, they almost always had a large family to go to so they couldn't possibly be left alone. For the king of the sea to be in charge of six children who were by and large not his blood was the strangest thing of all, but he didn't care. He loved them as if they were his biologically, even though...he would probably never come close to that in another thousand millenia.

So Choromatsu's statement about his friend, Takumi, is wildly confusing to Poseidon. Confusing, but not unheard of. Just rare.]

A-ahh...I suppose...if you would like to be technical...then yes. You are adopted. But it really does not matter, as far as we go...

[ He blinks a bit. ]

Yeah, I don't see how it would ever matter anyway. A dad's a dad.

[He ends up huffing a little, patting the top of his head with a finger. What a good boy.]

You are exactly right. It does not matter one way or the other. I could be a whale and I would still be proud to be your father.

...Okay, that'd be weird actually.

[ though he's already as big as most whales?? but he's USED to big so that seems less weird ]

[He's just teasing now, obviously...he probably has the power to make himself one if he really wanted to. But he doesn't want to.]

Hmmm, well your lullabies would probably be nicer at least... so no?

[His lullabies are flawless, thank you. But just for that, Choromatsu will be treated to a kiss that he's too close to squirm away from, just as Poseidon gently lowers him back to the sea floor.]

[ He still tries to squirm away anyway though it is futile. Gross, dad!! He is maybe a little too quick to get away once he's lowered down because of that, though he only swims as far as just out of his dad's hand. ]

[ he then moves to go pick up his things and put them all back in the bag he brought them in. Now that he knows what colours are going to be made for him, he's going to try and look for more things that'll complement them. No more arranging today though. He's got the time.

[What a question...one that he's not afraid to answer, per say, but perhaps its just...more sad for him to bring up. His expression sure shows it, what with the way it falls only a touch, retaining that wistfulness. ]

Oh...oh yes, my son. I have harbored love for both, but...none of my pursuits ever bore fruit.

[If Choromatsu ever wondered where the two seahorses Poseidon owns came from....that was basically all he got from trying, ever.]

It is why I chose to....mm. "Adopt" children of my own, to put it in those terms. When you have existed for as many millennia as I have, you realize that having no one to share your creations with can get frightfully lonely.
