[That's one of the only things keeping Poseidon okay with this, honestly. The knowledge that he successfully completed Megami's quest, and now they can be properly wed. It makes him a bit emotional to think about, honestly, but the hard part is done.

As Megami falls unconscious, Poseidon curls up close beside him, keeping their heads near so he can protect him while he rests. He doesn't have the strength yet to move himself, but he's close enough to the water that if some unwanted company decided to show, he'd be able to get them both to safety.

For the entire day, Poseidon rests in the sand with Megami, the ocean waves washing up over them both periodically to keep him from drying out. He falls in and out of consciousness himself, startling awake every hour or so to make sure Megami is still there.

By the time the sun has long since gone down and the moon illuminates the island, Poseidon wakes up at half strength. It's enough for him to move again, and that means it's time to go home. Poseidon rises from the sand and pushes his arms beneath Megami, holding him tightly against his chest as he lets the ocean waves carry them both back out to sea...away from the island, and more importantly, away from Adranus' scrutinizing eye. At least, for now.

Unbeknownst to the sleeping Megami, Poseidon carries him all the way back to their home in the reef. He scarcely makes it through the entrance before he's overwhelmed by his children, all of them talking at once and clambering to see Megami in his arms. He'd been gone a very long time, after all...and they'd started to get worried. They also don't understand how or why Megami is here now, but Poseidon tries to explain as best he can as he brings Megami back to his own quiet room. He has at least enough strength to erect somewhere for Megami to rest: a bed of kelp in a half shell similar to where his sons sleep, only much larger. He sets him gently there, warning their children not to bother him. He knew they wouldn't listen, but...he tried, at least.

The sea king gives Megami one last parting kiss, much to the dismay of the mers watching behind him, before shooing them all out and back to their own room, having to field even more questions about Megami being okay, him staying here, what happened to the crown they made...

...He just hoped Megami would wake up soon.]
