What he wasn't ready for was for Poseidon to kiss him back, and as a result he can't help the muffled squeak like sound he makes in surprise once their lips meet again.
But despite his surprise and how red his face turns, he melts into it pretty quickly, especially once he feels Poseidon's hand. With his eyes closed he lifts his body up a bit more with his tail so he can push himself into the kiss a bit more, then takes his own arms away from Poseidon's waist and rests them on his shoulders instead. It may only last a touch longer but he's reciprocating fully. ]
